Expo 2010, July, and Warley
2010, November
Expo 2010 - The Golden Jubilee - 3rd and 4th July 2010
The Association will be 50 years old in 2010. We are planning a major two day exhibition to celebrate 50 years of finescale modelling, with a large number of layouts, demonstrations and seminars. It will be held in Oxford on the weekend of 3rd and 4th July 2010.
We hope to show several substantial 2mm scale layouts, including some never seen on the exhibition circuit. There will be layouts from the Golden Jubilee Challenge; to build a layout for Expo 2010.
Layouts invited and confirmed so far:
- Fence Houses (Bob Jones & Co, NEAG)
- Copenhagen Fields (Tim Watson & Co, The MRC)
- Wansbeck Road (Mick & Yvonne Simpson)
- Welton Down (Jim & Sue Allwood)
- Highbury Colliery (Jerry & Kim Clifford)
- Mini-MSW (Alan Whitehouse)
- Witney - Euston (Mark Cox)
- St Ruth
There are several more layouts under consideration. We also hope to have around a dozen GJ Layout Challenge entries present, so this could be an opportunity to see 20 quality 2mm finescale layouts in one place.
Seminars, Tutorials & Workshops.
Subject to demand and tutors being available it is hoped that there will be several side-room sessions on various topics. Booking forms will be in a future issue of the 2mm Magazine sent to all members.
Celebration Dinner - Saturday 3rd July.
Members only. There will be a formal 3-course celebration dinner in the College dining room where exhibitors are being accommodated on the Saturday evening. All members and their partners are welcome to apply for tickets when the booking forms are sent out in February. We hope to have a guest speaker from the wider hobby, to say a few words after the meal, but rest assured there will be no long and windy speeches!
Stewards & Helpers Required.
If you are a member and can spare time to assist in running the event, please make yourself known to Mike Taylor.
Accommodation.
Oxford is a popular tourist destination and its hotel and guest house accommodation tends to be popular during the summer months and especially at weekends! You are strongly advised to make your room bookings well in advance of Expo. If you leave it until Easter you may be disappointed or find the prices very expensive. Warley 2010 - 20th and 21st November 2010
Our involvement with Warley National in 2010 is now taking shape nicely; there will be a large 2mm area with up to six layouts of various sizes and over 30 feet of demonstration tables. The dates are confirmed as 20th and 21st November 2010 and should, as usual, be located in Hall 5 at the NEC, Birmingham.
Layouts invited so far and awaiting confirmation are:
- Copenhagen Fields (Tim Watson & Co, The MRC)
- Ynysarwed Sidings (Stephen Harris)
- Wansbeck Road (Mick & Yvonne Simpson)
Plus up to 3 GJ Layout Challenge entries, hopefully to include the winner if the owner is available to exhibit it that weekend.
Six demonstration tables are planned, each with pair of members demonstrating and explaining a particular 2mm modelling discipline, including trackwork, locos, rolling stock, scenics and RTR conversions for beginners.
The 2mm Roadshow will also be in attendance, with booklets and promo kits,
answering questions from the public and hopefully signing a few new members.
